We've just redesign our hostel to render a better service to you. A new Tv room was fitted out on the second floor.

A led Tv, a home theater sistem and a bookshelf make this room the most comfortable place at the hostel to relax while watching movies.
New and larger public areas were equiped to chill out and sharing the best BBQ with people from all around the world.

Also we have a fully equiped hall beside the billiard table and the BBQ area so you can have meal, surf on the internet and sharing lovely talks without leaving

Hi everybody, HOSTAL FORESTAL this time is inviting you to come to "LA CUMBRE GUACHACA" on april the 29th and 30th 2011. There you can enjoy the most tipical food, dancing and drinks of Chile. The show takes place at Estación Mapocho right next to the Cal y Canto metro estation and almost 10 minutes walking through the Parque Forestal from the hostel.

Just a few streets from the hostel, walking through parque forestal, there's the 8th book fair taking place at plaza Juan Sebastián Bach, featuring 40 stands full of bestsellers and Chilean classics. The best of all, very good prices! There are lots of different activities for the attendees including children's theater, storytelling, tarot reading, craft rooms, Japanese calligraphy and Book Raffle, all these immersed in an atmosphere of live music and Celtic dance.

Another perfect thing to do on these super hot afternoons.

Surfing Pichilemu Chile. YEAH!

Hey guys, we’ve just arrived from a nice surfing weekend in Pichilemu and Punta de Lobos, one thing you can’t miss if you’re staying in Chile. It doesn’t matter if you’re experienced or not ‘cause if you wanna have fun, we assure you will.

Getting to Pichilemu is an easy one, in Santiago just go to Universidad de Santiago Metro Station and look for Pullman del Sur or Nilahue, both of these goes to Pichilemu taking the short way (via Melipilla). The trip shouldn’t last more than 4 hours and the price is about US$10. There are lots of places where to stay, we do have our favorite.

Pichilemu and Punta de Lobos have both nice waves where beginners can practice standing on the board for the first time. Surf schools offering classes and equipment rental is easily found.

If you’re travelling by car you won’t wanna miss having the mythical surfers stop in Litueche (small town after the Rapel dam) for the best sandwich in town. Just look for Tia Yoli’s place on the main street (Hermanos Carrera #650, Litueche)

Cerro San Cristobal by bike

Outside the hostel walking through the Parque Forestal there is a spectacular view where you can see a huge hill in the middle of the town with a white statue on its summit. This is the Cerro San Cristobal which is part of the Metropolitan Park. Going up to the top is one of the best activities you can do if you want to have a relaxing time. Here you will be in contact with many species of trees and native plants and if you're lucky some hares and quails.

There are several ways to access: The nearest to the Hostel is the Pio Nono entrance (Pio Nono #445, Bellavista) here you can take the funicular which goes up to the top in few minutes ($1.600 CLP round trip). If you like biking, or want to exercise a little I recommend going up in a bike starting at the Pedro de Valdivia Norte access, you won’t have to pay if you enter either walking or by bike. (Av El Cerro/Pedro de Valdivia Norte)

The road is 3,4 miles long with some few steep slopes in certain places, you can find fresh water and rest areas if you feel tired. There is even a swimming pool (Tupahue $5000 CLP), in case you decide to stop and call it a day. You can visit the Japanese garden, Anahuac culture house and different viewpoints along the way. Reaching the summit is rewarded with a beautiful view of the city, the Mapocho River and the Andes. My favorite is the Mote con Huesillos drink, which is sold at different places on the top. I always go all the way up thinking about it.

If you went up on bike, the best part of all will be the descent; by taking precautions you can have an adrenalin experience downhill.

I recommend doing this activity on the evening starting from 6pm and getting off before 9pm.
